We’ve all heard the spin from companies such as Telstra and Optus, about how their services reach 99% of the Australian population. That’s all well and good, until you realise that most of the population is on the eastern coast.

So I thought it would be interesting to keep some “real-world” records to track how good the actual coverage of their mobile devices are. Armed with an Optus 3G iPhone and a Telstra Next G wireless broadband modem, I’ll check the coverage frequently and post the results in the table below.
